In school this year, I was assigned this book to help improve my creative writing. It's a mystery about an author named I.B. who is missing. (I don't know if he got kidnapped, killed, abducted by aliens, etc.) I'm on chapter 7 right now, but this post is about the second part of chapter 6, where the two main characters, Zack and Anna, find a dragon. Earlier, in chapter 6 they find a golden key. (Hey, it's fiction!) Anyway, in this part of chapter 6, Zack and Anna find a dragon.
"OK... So what do we do now?" asked Anna.
"I don't know." said Zack. "
"Ahhgg! Duck!" screamed Anna.
"It's not quacking." replied Zack.
"No! Duck!!!"
"Oh!" cried Zack.
The creature flapped it's bat-like wings. "Wow! A Dragon!!" Anna exhaled. The Dragon landed on the ground beside them.
"Hello, small ones."
"Dragons can talk?!" exclaimed Anna.
"Yes child, we can talk." the Dragon said. "My name is Gideon. Follow me."
"Why should we?" asked Zack nervously.
"Trust me." Gideon replied. He took off.
"Wait!" cried Anna. Then she saw his shadow. "Zack! Follow his shadow!"
Suddenly, an arrow thumped into Gideon's side. "No!" cried Anna as the magnificent creature fell. The earth shook and there was a puff of smoke as the Dragon breathed his last breath.

By now they had been walking for hours without stopping. Could this be the end of us? Zack wondered. Would they ever find I.B. in this new world, or are we doomed to wander the Other Side forever?* Suddenly, they heard a noise coming from behind them. They spun around to see the silhouette of a stranger blocking their way.
* The Other Side is where Zack and Anna are.
